Backgammon precision dice have machine-balled corners (bevelled corners) compared to standard casino dice which have sharp corners. The balled corners allow for greater spin and tumbling of the dice when they are thrown. The balled corners also result in a perfectly circular face on each side of the die. Precision dice have smooth flush surfaces, unlike the pitted, concave surfaces of non-precision dice. Precision dice are used in casinos to guard against trick rolls and to ensure the randomness of each roll.
