Once contact has been broken, the most important feature of each side's position is the pip count. The pip count is entirely controlled by the dice, as long as you have a checker on the 6 point or some higher point. Let's say, for instance that your pip count is 98 and your roll is 5-5. Then, no matter how you play your double fives (as long as you play them legally!), you are going to wind up with a pip count of 78
