Time to get those thinking caps on and take a chance at winning a Snowie 3 Professional Edition worth $380. All you have to do is write the rest of this story in about 1,000 words, send it to editor@gammonvillage.com and you're entered in the contest. Your work will be rated on a scale of 1 to 10 by our panel of four judges. Bill Davis, Bob Stringer, Tom Suzanski and Mark Driver have kindly accepted to do the honours. First Prize will be Oasya's Snowie 3 Professional Edition, Second Prize a Snowie 3 Student Edition and Third Prize a copy of MasterGammon from Goto Software. Your entries must be in by midnight May 1, 2000. The winners will be announced Thursday, May 4. We will also publish the winning entries on that day.

The Mystical Backgammon Board

The young boy was quite angry, his mother had told him to turn off the TV and go and play with his toys. "That's it," he yelled, standing at the open doorway, "if I can't watch my show, I'm leaving and I'm never coming back!"

He paused a few seconds, expecting to hear her voice pleading for him to stay. The only sounds that came from the kitchen were those of the old ringer-washer churning around the laundry and the rattle of pots and pans as his mother prepared the evening meal. He pretended to leave now, slamming the door loudly and then he tiptoed into his parents' bedroom and hid in their closet.

He held his breath as his heart pounded in his ears, straining to catch the sound of her footsteps racing after him down the hall, waiting to hear her call out his name. Surely, his mother had to be worried. Was she calling his bluff? Had his sisters and brother tried this one before? She did not come
