Carter Mattig and Phil Simborg have announced the creation of the Chicago Backgammon Association. The goal is not only to run the usual weekly events, but to market to and encourage new players to participate in live backgammon.
Starting in March they will have weekly tournaments in Chicago’s Greek Town at the historic Parthenon Restaurant. In addition to the usual format, they will offer free lessons and a “junior” tournament without the doubling cube for novice players and people new to live play. New players will also be given a free entry into the main event when they are ready to move up.

So you want to encourage new players in Chicago? That's great news.
So only premium members can get the information? That's pretty sad, and not very encouraging.
Too bad your actions undermine your intent.
Josef7, GammonVillage was kind enough to put this notice up to let their readers know what we're doing. We are not affiliated with GV and they didn't charge us to publicize our new venue...in fact, two people who came to our opening event say they found out about it right here!
There are notices on many other web sites; we advertise in Chicago-area newspapers; we have flyers up at universities around Chicago; and we have emailed information to every backgammon player we know and asked them to pass it on.
I hope that addresses your concerns.
