Current Ladder: Championship Flight
GammonVillage correspondent Stick reports from Day 4 at the 2009 World Championships of Backgammon, being held at the Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo, Monaco from July 13 to July 19.
MONTE CARLO, Monaco - Another day in the life yet more of the same. Day 4 brought more disappointment as I lost my consolation match swiftly and turned around later and lost a rough doubles match. The good news for you, the reader, trying to keep up with the ongoings in Monte Carlo is that I lose so quickly I have time to write for GammonVillage. I couldn't imagine winning and having time to keep up with what's going on nevertheless write a daily summary. GammonVillage must have known they chose the right fish for the job figuring "nobody will have more free time than Stick, not even sure why he's even attending!?"

Take in the top position. Owning the cube won't help them much but the gammon threat isn't that great, so I'd take. In the 2nd position, I guess the pedestrian 13/8 would be my choice.

I know what you are talking about ;-). It's almost a 20h job.

In Stick's double's match: I like 8/6 13/10... given match score you aren't turning the cube too fast but could benefit from an undoubled gammon so why not set up a loose hit on the one point while the opponent is outboarded and has a blot in his home board?
i didn't type it into a bot... that is just my instinct.
cheers and keep up the good work stick!
Well you ought to finish the question and give the readers the rule you broke... otherwise the article is really disjointed.
