Frank Große reports from the Czech Backgammon Open, held in Pardubice, the Czech Republic from July 17 to July 19, 2009.
If someone hears the sound of the name "Czech Republic" he normally thinks about dumplings, wafer, Becherovka, the capital Prague and beautiful women with curve-accentuating skirts. But there is more to it than this! Since the early 90's of the last century a game and tournament series has been played in a small, beautiful city called PARDUBICE – nearly one hundred kilometers from Prague.

This looks like an awesome event, and great for the growth of board games in general.
If only we could get something organized like this in the U.S.A. ........

Buchholz is a tie breaking system used in chess. I forget the details but believe that the better your opponents do against other people, the better your own tiebreaks are.
