GNU Backgammon analyzes the 23-point Semi-Final match from the 2009 World Backgammon Championship played between Masayuki (Mochy) Mochizuki (JPN) and Philippe Lecomte (FRA).

As a side note I believe Mochy made some decisions, especially cube decisions, based on his perceived skill advantage and that's why his error rate is 'so high'. The rumor mill had Lecomte playing anywhere from a 10 ER and easily above before this match. I never saw him play so I can't comment, only what I heard from other players. The rumors may have got Mochy in a little trouble as Lecomte played fairly ok and caused Mochy to shy away from big cubes. Interesting match to review, wish I could have watched both semi matches while they took place but I was busy with the other match between Roland and Lars.
The game was lost on move 49. You have to hit and cover on the 3 point and make a 5 point board. You have to take your chances that he doesn't roll 1-6, 1-1, or 1-2...As it turned out he rolled 2-2 which would have danced and the game would have been over...
