There has long been a debate about what is more important - good checker play or good cube skills. To me, it doesn't matter: they are both critical. I have found, however, that most beginners and intermediate players (who I have been teaching for over 20 years) find the use of the doubling cube more difficult than checker play. If you check their errors on a bot (Extreme, GNU or Snowie) you will often see that the most costly errors are cube errors.
