Adam Bennett reports on the 2009 American Backgammon Tour (ABT) California State Championships, held from December 5 through December 7, 2009 in Van Nuys, California.
The Fat Lady has sung her glorious coda to the 2009 American Backgammon Tour: it was an enigmatic tune, at once a triumphal march and a melancholy dirge. The California State Championships provide the traditional ending to the long and grueling season of dice and blots, gammons and beavers. This year's tourney found nine players with chances to win the tour championship, and all but one of the aspirants made their way to Van Nuys on the weekend of December 5-7, 2009. GammonVillage correspondent Mary Hickey was the only absentee among the nine, which is the reason I'm filling in for her here.
