Backgammon has taken me to some interesting places over the years. I've played in private clubs in places as far ranging as Beverly Hills and Hong Kong, in places as public as halfway onstage at the Kings Plaza I, a notorious Go-Go bar in Bangkok, ringed by a phalanx of naked kibitzers, in places as dubious as a dong dong ju joint under the stairs near the Twilight Zone restaurant in Itaewon, and in places as luxurious as the Atlantis Hotel and Casino in the Bahamas. While we weren't going there for a backgammon game, it was backgammon indirectly that brought me to Lomsak, Thailand; it was backgammon that introduced me to a number of my guests; and thus backgammon that put us all on a bus venturing ever deeper into the Thai countryside.
