The first thing you will notice about this book is its cover, by which we have all been advised not to judge a book. In this case, I'm not sure what you'd presuppose about the book even if you did, since it shows a player who has obviously had a few too many—backgammon games, that is! The poor fellow is slumped over a backgammon board after apparently rolling his prescription meds along with the dice. His glass of wine, unfinished and miraculously also unspilled, is so close to his right hand that you may feel an impulse to grab it and move it away, lest he knock it over if he shifts position even slightly.

Excellent review and excellent book. What Mike has shown us, both in his book and in his lectures, is that even though we are fully into the computer age of backgammon, there is still plenty of room for intuition, creativity, and insight. The game is far more scientific than it was 20 years ago, but Mike shows us there is still plenty of "art" left in the game. If you read the book, you will understand the game better, and you'll get some fun and interesting insights along the way. Phil
