Last month we looked at competition against an Advanced Level Backgammon player from the perspective of a World Class Backgammon player. This month we will take a look at two Expert level players and see how they fare against that same player in positions from two seven point matches.
Both of these players play at a fairly high and sophisticated level but got there from different methods of study and experience.

I learned something from several of these positions. Position 1 was a "no-brainer" for me simply because of a saying Sly taught me years ago: "offense/offense, defense/defense." Meaning when you are on the offense, tend to make the more offensive play, and when you are on the defense, tend to make the more defensive play. In position 1, you clearly need to think about defense...he's got more inner board points and he's got more ammunition to attack you, so you'd better play defensively and make an anchor.
