I think green need to return the cube much earlier though, some time after having hit two checkers. For instance at greens move 34 when white cracks his deuce point it might already a pass for white.
The evaluation function on Snowie and GNU underestimates greens chances by a lot in this type of position. The evaluation here says that green before move 34 has 68% winning chances while a full rollout gives him about 78%, which looks close enogh to a pass to redouble.
