Current Ladder: Championship Flight

GammonVillage correspondent Achim Mueller reports from Day 2 at the 2008 World Championships of Backgammon, being held at the Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Achim isn't just reporting on the event, he is also competing for the Championship and has advanced to Round 4 of the Main Tournament Flight. Keep on rolling Achim!

MONTE CARLO, Monaco - There were 199 players registered for the Main Tournament Flight this year, a slight decrease since 2007. However, I think the new organizers are going down the right path.

Great reports Achim! I hope you manage to find time to continue writing AND to keep on winning as well.

It is quite ironic but particularly pleasing that, after six consecutive attempts myself to become World Champion without a single match win in the Main flight to show for it, I have reached the last 32 this year....without even travelling to Monte Carlo!

I presume that the player erroneously given my name on the GV ladder is actually the American player, Ed Bennett, although I can't be sure. Whoever it is, if he gets to the final I will be over there like a shot to claim my winnings! Meanwhile I will continue to cheer myself on....

Please keep up the excellent reports Achim. They are great for those of us who are present in name only, but not in person.

Peter Bennet, Ealing, London (still)
