GammonVillage correspondent Achim Mueller files this report from Day 4 at the 2008 World Championships of Backgammon, being held at the Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

MONTE CARLO, Monaco - The tension mounts on the playing floor here at the Grand Hotel in Monte Carlo, as elimination ends the dreams of becoming World Champion for many, while for a select few that remain, the title of World Champion is tantalizingly within their grasp.
