Backgammon, as some sage noted, is a race. Writing backgammon articles can be a race, too.

"Don’t worry about your deadline," I told myself.

After traveling to the States to prove to Ta that Tucson really was hotter than Thailand (walking around the exterior exhibits of the Pima Air Museum when it was 109º was a compelling argument), and Cancun, Mexico for the second-best backgammon wedding of the year ("Way to go, Carter and Christina!"), I used up most of June.
