Mary Hickey reports from the 2008 Michigan Summer Backgammon Championships, held at the Sheraton Detroit-Novi Hotel in Novi Michigan, from July 3 to July 6, 2008.

NOVI, Michigan - The 33rd annual Michigan Summer Championships, held this year July 3 through July 6, 2008 at the Sheraton in Novi, always draw a good turnout and this year was no exception. There were 94 players in the Championship, and the 32-player Masters was filled long before the tournament started. Add 75 players in the advanced and 20 in the Novice, and it's a regular backgammon convention, setting a new record of 189 in the main events. There were even 47 people who couldn't wait to get started, came early and played in the pre-game show events on the night of Wednesday, July 2.
