Gabriele Falk reports from the 2008 Gogi Bukia Memorial Georgian Backgammon Open, held at the Courtyard Marriott in Tbilisi, Georgia, from July 31 to August 5, 2008.
TBILISI, Georgia - Georgia… No, not that part of the world you might think of but Central Asia. Not where Coca-Cola has its headquarters, but ex-Soviet-Union, just like most of its neighbors like Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia. Not the State with Atlanta as capital but Tbilisi, the capital of the country in Caucasia.
"What a place for a backgammon tournament! Why Georgia?", some of you might have thought after crossing one of the many announcements by the World Backgammon Association (WBA).
Giving it a second thought and after experiencing this unusual event, my reply would be "Yes, absolutely Georgia!"
