ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Jay Bidal is a Canadian expatriate living in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. Jay teaches English at Zayed University, is married, and has an eight-year-old son (who's rapidly improving in backgammon himself!).

Jay has been playing and studying backgammon seriously for the last two years and recently won the Consolation at the Abu Dhabi Ramadan tournament. He plays mostly online (there is no backgammon club yet in Abu Dhabi) on the FIBS backgammon server as jaysbird. His immediate goal is to become the best player in the Gulf region and the Middle East.
