In 2005, I had never heard of Richard Munitz, and by the end of 2006, he's just about all I heard about. Richard burst upon the backgammon scene with an impressive three wins to take the top spot on the American Backgammon Tour (ABT) nearly ten points clear of 2nd place finisher Gregg Cattanach, and just more than ten points ahead of my former backgammon student and 3rd place ABT finisher Ken Fischer.
Richard won three tournaments in less than three months, first at The Michigan Summer Championships topping a field of 89, and followed it up with wins at Thousand Islands, NY and Georgia (USA). Richard, along with Ken Fischer, also in 2006, are the only ones to rack up three ABT wins in a single season other than all time ABT point leader Neil Kazaross.
