With "Giant #1" (Gold) Mochy home in Japan greeting his first son (congratulations Mochy), the #2 (Silver) and #3 (Bronze) "Giants of Backgammon" Falafel and Neil Kazaross attended the California State Backgammon Championship in early December 2011 and wouldn't you know it, in the jackpot event (the Super 48), they met in the finals.
In the semi-finals Falafel defeated 1989 World Champion Joe Russell and Neil Kazaross defeated two time Vegas Super Jackpot finalist Justin Nunez. That would set up a classic final match between two of the brightest stars the game has to offer.
Having said that some of the positions we will look at today will be errors made by either player. We are all susceptible to making mistakes over the board especially when the pressure of a late round match with the clock to consider but what you have to remember is that nobody plays perfect and the best of us minimize our mistakes to a tolerable level. The important thing is to learn from our mistakes and become better with every learning experience.
