I hadn't been to an ABT event in almost a year. The reasons were many from trying to redefine what 'lazy' means to playing tennis or being too busy with other backgammon projects. However when the ABT event in PGH rolled around my excuses were few. First, the tournament is just under a 3 hour drive from my house. I love tournaments I can drive to because then I can pack everything that I might possibly want into my car and be set. This time for example, I took my tennis gear, a case of Pepsi, a bottle of Captain Morgan's along with two backgammon boards, a clock, and even some cooler food to nosh on my long drive there and back. On top of that Rob Maier directs the PGH event and say what you will about him... and I will agree. As a side bar it was unfortunate to hear that he will no longer be running this tournament and possibly not assisting at any others either. I liked his swagger. (That's right, you read it correctly, I said Rob Maier has swagger!) Lastly, I both needed to vote for the Giants list for which the voting is at a near close and catch Ray Fogerlund's ABT shattering acceptance speech. They will accept ballots until the 29th of February for the Giants list.
