Mary Hickey reports on the 2013 ABT Connecticut State Backgammon Championships held in Hartford, Connecticut on October 22 through October 24, 2013.
New England has many excellent backgammon players, but there have been no ABT events held there for quite a while.
Ross Gordon decided to do something about that, and successfully directed the first Connecticut State Backgammon Championships on the weekend of October 22-24.
The winner of the main event was New England Backgammon Club president Alex Zamanian, and the finalist was Herb Gurland, who is always a contender (or winner) for Player of the Year there.
"The tournament was well-run by Ross Gordon and his team, and I totally recommend it if they decide to run it next year," says Alex.
He notes that if you came to play backgammon all weekend, you would not have been disappointed: "There were three levels of play for the main tournaments, and plenty of side event tournaments (blitzes, doubles, masters, 1-point match and others) to enter as well," he adds.
