Jerrymandering 6

We left off with me leading 17-15 to 23 in my semifinal match with Jerry Grandell.

At the next board Neil Kazaross was winning his semifinal match with Dr. John Simon of Hong Kong.

One of us could look forward to an interesting finals match, and I was determined that forward-looking person would be me.

After leading 14-3, a 17-15 lead wasn't quite as secure as I'd have liked, but I was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Then again, wasn't the light at the end of the tunnel what they told Carol Ann to run away from?

Up to here we had played almost perfectly. Jerry's play is one most players would make: 24/21, 22/21. The three is clear, but the preferred ace is 6/5. It is 5.5% better than putting a third man on the 21pt.

On the other hand, I wonder how many players would get this right? It feels funny leaving two men back on the 24pt, but it is correct to do so here. Jerry played 21/9(2)*, which looks solid and correct if you try the move on for size.

This is close to a take, just 3% away, but Jerry correctly passed, making the score 18-15 to 23.
